There is a continuous debate going on regarding the greater effectiveness of the power toothbrush as compared to a manual toothbrush in all popular medias including the internet. Even though, the acceptance of the facts by the dental professionals is still very limited. A study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a power toothbrush in a group of affected people; the study was strictly based on the clinical opinions of dental professionals. Beside that surveys were also conducted to assess the stance of dental professionals and people toward the power toothbrushes available in the market. The study indicated the effectiveness of the power toothbrush and according to the dental professionals the positive effect on the oral health of about 80 percent of the affected people was closely observed; the noticeable benefits included plaque removal and improved gingival condition. Most of the participants in the study confirmed that they would like to continue using the power toothbrush after the study. At the end more dentists considered the power toothbrush to be the most effective way of brushing and they would likely to recommend a power toothbrush to their patients now onwards.
After the introduction of electric toothbrush in 60s, there was a great confusion and reluctance about the product was present among the minds of the people. But after the introduction of the power toothbrushes in the market the position has significantly improved and presently the power toothbrushes are both highly effective and reliable due to their advanced features and unique designing. The efficacy of the power toothbrushes in comparison with that of the manual toothbrush has been evaluated in a large number of clinical studies carried out by various academic institutions and contract research companies from time to time. These studies have shown the power toothbrush to be superior all the time demonstrating greater plaque removal power of these toothbrushes and more improvement in gingival condition than that achieved with a manual toothbrush alone.
Thus, power toothbrushes can have two clinically important benefits over manual toothbrushes. First, they are more effective at plaque removal, presumably because they deliver a better brushing technique to the user group and, second, they encourage better compliance with brushing. Beside that these toothbrushes make the user to comply the dentist’s norms of full 2 minutes brushing. However, despite these benefits, relatively few dental professionals recommend the use of a power toothbrush to their general patient population. The fact that dental professionals do not wholeheartedly support the power toothbrush points out that the clinical data is not reaching them or they are not convinced by the results of studies that may not reflect the actual clinical situation. But the fact can not be denied that the power toothbrushes are more efficient as compared to their manual counterparts. Not only that the power toothbrushes are quite capable of extending the helping hand for the elderly, incapacitated and young kids to enable them to get the proper brushing for their teeth and enable them to maintain a high level of oral hygiene and cleanliness.
