After the first electric toothbrush hit the market in the United States in 1960s, it has also passed through various innovations. Though the electric toothbrush was initially created for the patients who suffered with limited motor skills and those with braces or orthodontics, but after the launch of the electric toothbrushes in the market its growing popularity compelled most of the toothbrush majors to think seriously about this product and really come out with a better product. There is practically no room or less room for the people to brush incorrectly using the electric toothbrushes and moreover for less than the recommended time frame of 2 minutes.

The electric toothbrushes are known for the mechanical movement through which they cleaning the teeth. This technology also changed a lot and matching with the time new technologies came to the fore like the rotational oscillating technology and the sonic technology. Recently most of the studies conducted have clearly shown that these two technologies make the electric toothbrushes far more superior as compared to their manual counterparts. The sonic technology uses the fluid dynamics to dislodge the plaque and offers greater cleaning to the teeth surface.

Nowadays most of the electric toothbrushes come with replaceable batteries or can be used with rechargeable batteries. This increases the effective oscillation of the brush head in the electric toothbrush at the same time it increases the movability of this toothbrush from one place to the other. Most of the models of the electric toothbrushes also include different type of timer devices. Since the rechargeable batteries are being used in most of these toothbrushes hence a handy recharge unit is also incorporated with the brush and this is generally housed in the stand of the toothbrush. Electric toothbrushes have become cheap in the years as the popularity of this product grew sharply. The popularity of the sonic toothbrushes considerably a new breed of electric toothbrushes claiming to have great cleaning potential, is at the rise. The brush head of such toothbrushes have the capacity of creating approximately 40000 brush strokes per minute, enabling secondary cleaning action through the use of fluid dynamics without physically touching the teeth surface.
