Do Sonic Toothbrushes Work?

The latest type of electric toothbrush available in the market is sonic toothbrush. The cleaning action of the sonic toothbrushes is based on unique sonic technology that allows having a cleaning effect beyond the reach of the tips of their bristles. It is also true that the recent generations of electric toothbrushes like the sonic toothbrushes are the best dental plaque removers. The most of the recent advancement in the technology of electric toothbrushes was achieved in 1983.
The electric toothbrushes that subsequently used this technology became to be known as the sonic technology and the toothbrushes produced using this technology were known as sonic toothbrushes. The high rate of speed at which the brush head vibrates distinctly separates the sonic toothbrush from the lot. Usually the sonic toothbrushes are capable of producing more than 31000 head strokes per minute even some of the models of the sonic toothbrushes are capable of producing more than 40000 head strokes per minute while the normal electric toothbrushes are able to produce only 3000 to 8000 head strokes per minute. The high speed of the head is achieved in the sonic toothbrush due to the vibratory motion of the head.

The cleaning action produced by a sonic toothbrush is based on two separate mechanisms. The first one of the mechanism it uses is conventional in nature and it is usually incorporated by all other types of toothbrushes. The primary mode of cleaning is produced by the scrubbing action of the brush head’s bristles on the surface of the user’s teeth by the toothbrushes. All toothbrushes whether electric and manual primarily use this age old principle for removing dental plaque and the desired cleaning action. The second mechanism for cleaning action is based on the sonic technology that is entirely unique to sonic toothbrushes. They are also capable of producing a cleaning action based upon the intense speed at which the bristles of the sonic toothbrush vibrate. This vibratory motion is able to impart energy to the fluids like saliva that surround teeth. The agitated fluid is capable of dislodging dental plaque beyond where the bristles of the toothbrush actually touch.

It supplements and improves the cleaning activity by the conventional scrubbing action of the sonic toothbrush’s bristles on the surface of teeth and also dilutes and washes away the toxins produced by the bacteria that live in dental plaque, this could help to lessen the dental plaque’s harmful effects. Sonic toothbrush creates a effective brushing action due to the high number of brush strokes per minute that these toothbrushes are capable of generating. As compared to the number of brush strokes created by brushing by hand this is generally considered to be in the vicinity of 300 strokes per minute. The non-sonic electric toothbrushes typically generate somewhere between 3000 and 8000 brush strokes per minute that is only about one fourth the number of brush strokes created by sonic toothbrushes. Overall sonic toothbrushes offer far more superior cleaning action as compared to the manual and other electric toothbrushes.
