The advent of electric toothbrush in the market has opened the doors for cleaning your teeth in a great way. The electric toothbrush has definitely held its own position in the American market place. It has become quite popular in the market and you can find electric toothbrushes for as little as $4 to as high as you can go. Though most of the brands available in the market have their own share but there is a fierce debate and battle is continuing among two of the most popular electric toothbrushes Sonicare Elite 39500 Sonic Toothbrush and the Braun toothbruses – Braun Oral B Professional Care Oral Care System. Both of the toothbrushes enjoy a good amount of popularity and market share. When most of the people go to purchase any toothbrush in the market they are looking for an electric toothbrush with a couple of features in mind.

Both the toothbrushes like Sonicare Elite 39500 Sonic Toothbrush and the Braun Toothbrush - Braun Oral B Professional Care Oral Care System come in the market with host of features. One of the important features to look for is the types of brush heads the electric toothbrush offers and how much it costs to replace these. Others features are like two-year warranties and rechargeable batteries. The Sonicare Elite 39500 Sonic toothbrush comes with two heads. The first head is a standard electric toothbrush head meant for complete cleaning of your teeth, gums, and mouth. The second head is smaller in size and specifically meant for more compact precision cleaning. On the other hand the Braun Oral B Professional Care Oral Care System comes with five different toothbrush heads. The first toothbrush head is a flex soft head, ideal for sensitive teeth and gums. The second head is a power polisher as its qualities suggest. The third one is the dual action head; fourth head is a tongue refresher and the fifth head is an interdental cleaner. The number of the cleaning options provided by the Braun Oral B scores one up versus Sonicare. Furthermore the Braun replacement heads are cheaper than the Sonicare toothbrush heads.

The latest type of electric toothbrush available in the market is sonic toothbrush. The cleaning action of the sonic toothbrushes is based on unique sonic technology that allows having a cleaning effect beyond the reach of the tips of their bristles. It is also true that the recent generations of electric toothbrushes like the sonic toothbrushes are the best dental plaque removers. The most of the recent advancement in the technology of electric toothbrushes was achieved in 1983.
The electric toothbrushes that subsequently used this technology became to be known as the sonic technology and the toothbrushes produced using this technology were known as sonic toothbrushes. The high rate of speed at which the brush head vibrates distinctly separates the sonic toothbrush from the lot. Usually the sonic toothbrushes are capable of producing more than 31000 head strokes per minute even some of the models of the sonic toothbrushes are capable of producing more than 40000 head strokes per minute while the normal electric toothbrushes are able to produce only 3000 to 8000 head strokes per minute. The high speed of the head is achieved in the sonic toothbrush due to the vibratory motion of the head.

There is a constant debate is going in the background about the superiority of the power toothbrushes versus the manual toothbrushes. A systematic review was conducted by the Cochrane Collaboration Oral Health Group and published a report in this regard in January 2003. The researchers at Cochrane group selected the following criteria to compare the power versus manual toothbrushes; the toothbrush had a randomized design, they drew participants from a general population without any disabilities, they acquired data regarding plaque and gingivitis for a specified period. The results indicated that only the rotating oscillating toothbrush consistently provided a statistically significant, although modest, clinical benefit over manual toothbrushes in reducing plaque and gingivitis.

The market was full of the power toothbrushes from almost all leading brands barring the Johnson and Johnson that made a late entry in the market with their Reach Powerbrush. The Reach Powerbrush is based on the rotational head technology. The Reach Powerbrush is similar in appearance to an ordinary electric toothbrush. Although it is heavier than ordinary toothbrushes, and the brush head does look different than an ordinary toothbrush. The toothbrush requires one AA size battery to power it. The battery usually lasts for about a month. If you desire you may replace the ordinary battery with a rechargeable battery because they may save you money in the long run. As for the brush head, it needs replacement every three months. You should replace the brush head if the bristles look worn out or damaged even if it hasn’t been three months yet.
The round oscillating head makes it easy to effectively clean all hard to reach areas in the oral cavity. The bristles present on the brush head are specially designed for both cleaning teeth and massaging the gums. The centre bristles are designed to clean the surfaces of your teeth while the raised blue outer bristles are ideal for massaging and cleaning along the gum line. The brush head consists of two motions in the Reach Powerbrush. The brush head moves in an up and down motion and spins also. The spinning head is specialty of the toothbrush called Reach Powerbrush. What if you want to replace the brush head? It’s very simple. To remove the brush head you simply twist it, and pull it off. Then replace it by pushing the new brush head on, and twisting it in the opposite direction.

Since the advent of the electric toothbrushes in the 60s, it has passed through many ups and downs, development processes etc. In the beginning electric toothbrushes were electric in the true sense. But as the time passed it slowly started to incorporate the electronic components to include the advanced features being developed through research process. These features include the inclusion of the sophisticated timers, low voltage battery operation of the motor, battery charger, multiple speed option and inclusion of the different types of indicator lights and alarms. Some of the electric toothbrushes like the Oral-B Triumph electric toothbrush also include a processor to make the toothbrush an electronic toothbrush in true sense. The minimum requirement for the new toothbrush has changed its profile in a big way, now the list includes a quad timer, a decent warranty, sonic or similar technology, rechargeable toothbrush and a battery life indicator gauge. Somewhere to a lesser degree the price also plays its part in the purchasing decisions.

Another unique feature of this toothbrush is a built in timer.

Maintenance of personal dental hygiene is essential to lead a healthy lifestyle and the maintenance of personal oral hygiene usually begins with brushing of the teeth regularly. After the introduction of the electric toothbrushes there were a number of brands available in the electric and manual toothbrushes in the market. But, how many of them are really effective is based on the choice and the popularity of the brand of the toothbrush. Innovations are not new to the toothbrush arena too and every now and then a host of lucrative features get included in the electric and manual toothbrushes. The toothbrush has transformed since its birth and has come a long way. An electric toothbrush uses the electric power to move the brush head filled with bristles in an oscillating pattern to clean the teeth.

After the first electric toothbrush hit the market in the United States in 1960s, it has also passed through various innovations. Though the electric toothbrush was initially created for the patients who suffered with limited motor skills and those with braces or orthodontics, but after the launch of the electric toothbrushes in the market its growing popularity compelled most of the toothbrush majors to think seriously about this product and really come out with a better product. Slowly the electric toothbrushes were found to be more effective than the manual brushes in removing plaque and prevent gingival bleeding through various research and studies conducted from time to time. There is practically no room or less room for the people to brush incorrectly using the electric toothbrushes and moreover for less than the recommended time frame of 2 minutes.
